Absence Exhibition by Maegan Oberhardt

Absence Exhibition banner.jpg

This exhibit of flora and fauna originals comment on the growth of the modern world and how its progress has left an absence of natural existence. An abstract perspective on the departure of life is explored through paintings on canvas of dying flora. The portraits highlight some of the many native wildlife affected around the world and reflect on the impact of poaching, deforestation and urbanisation. Burning these portraits with fire onto paper (physically burning the paper then etching out the portrait), represents the scar that is left behind from the proliferation of the human race.

(The etched burn concept has been greatly refined for the Absence Exhibit, it was first introduced as ‘Burning Wildlife’ as part of a collective for the ‘Space Exhibition’ at Academy of Design Australia in 2015.)
