Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Maegan is a recognised young talent having achieved Resident Artist at the renowned Morpeth Gallery in the Hunter Valley alongside Masters in Wildlife Realism Art. Her first serious competition juried her artwork ‘Galah’s Playground’ as a semi-finalist in the 15th Art Renewal Center’s International Salon.
First popularised by surrealist greats such as Wolfgang Paalen and Salvadore Dali; ‘Fumage’ is the highly specialised technique of dancing a flame underneath paper to leave a layer of soot.
Working from her Bobinawarrah Studio (near Milawa) in North East Victoria; Maegan takes this several steps further by etching the soot away with various tools to leave an incredibly realistic image of the subject. She refers to it as ‘Painting with Fire’ - the literal translation of how she creates her hyper-realistic artworks of wildlife species at risk. The burnt paper reflects the impact that man has on nature and the consequent effect on wildlife.
Maegan applies her unique style to create Original Artworks that feature Australian Wildlife. For this exhibition, she is including a few of the ‘Original’ pieces along with the entire body of work as Limited Edition Prints. It provides the audience with an expansive look at her work over the past two years while she has remained solely focussed on the topic. There are over 40 pieces in this collection, and she will have the most recent additions of ‘Galah’s Playground’ and ‘Spring Clean’ for view.
To take a break from the intensity of size and detail in her primary collection, Maegan has delved into a range of different subjects and created several Original pieces just for this event. They are impressive, non Australian animals and “one-offs”, and in her recognised style of ‘Painting with Fire’.
Her Original Artworks, Limited Edition Prints (both framed and unframed), and her Hand-foiled Greeting Cards will be available for purchase. Eftpos services available.
From 11 am to 3 pm, Maegan will be available to mingle with guests in amongst her conducting brief and interactive demonstrations of how she applies her ‘Painting with Fire’ technique to her drawings.
The Bright Chalet will have the Devonshire Tea available for purchase in their restaurant and the Bar Service will be open.
