Chapter 6

A few months into this lockdown! I reside on a country property and rarely go into town for supplies, so I suppose that other than the fact that all of my events have been postponed for an undetermined amount of time, my life hasn’t changed that much! (I was a hermit before it was mandatory - LOL).

I would like to share with you a few new artworks that I have just completed:

Daydream

INSPIRATION: I created Daydream to show the peaceful, sleepy side of the Koala that they are so beloved for. Daydream depicts a young koala hiding up in the trees, taking yet another nap, and hoping no one notices. It truly is a laborious life!

New Holland Honeyeater

INSPIRATION: I was having my morning cup of tea, enjoying all the new spring flowers and suddenly heard this bird darting around all the bushes as quick as lightning! Its face was covered in pollen and it was on a mission to scope out every flower in the garden. After a few tries, I managed to capture a photo while he was distracted with a large flower!

Oberhardt_Quokka_ecw.jpg

Quokka and Joey

INSPIRATION: Quokka’s have become the underdog of adorable animals. With the most heart melting smile as their signature look, it is easy to spot a Quokka! I wanted to show that there are more sides to these guys; more than just a smile, but a bond between mother and child.

Eastern Rosella’s Morning Stretch

INSPIRATION: Sometimes you don’t have to go far to capture something special, the old tree outside my studio window seems to bring all the wildlife to me. This Eastern Rosella landed on a branch and was quite happy grooming himself, “manscaping” rather. He had a big long stretch and must have heard my camera click because I swear he gave me a wink!

Here is some of the ‘behind the scenes’ of how I created “Eastern Rosella’s Morning Stretch” . . . . . . . . . .

Oberhardt_DevilsKiss_ecw.jpg

Devil’s Kiss

Inspiration: Most people commonly associate the Tasmanian Devil with something scary and dangerous. I feel that it is an unwarranted bias towards a wild animal that is just going about their business. This piece was meant to show the sweeter side to the Tasmanian Devil and uses “Devil’s Kiss” as an antiphrasis to portray a mother kissing her baby.

It’s exciting to venture into new areas in the art world! It has taken 3 months with enlisting 7 suppliers (plus final assembly line) to create these beautiful and unique keepsakes. Australian made and owned, these linen cards have been hand foiled and custom cut to fit their envelopes perfectly!

I hope you enjoy these as much as I did in making them!

Now completed, I can now offer the first two collections of ‘Greeting Cards’ featuring many of my artworks. Now online — read more here
