FINALIST in the Holmes Art Prize for Realistic Australian Art
Inspiration: Acts of love and the endearing nature of Australian wildlife are my greatest muse. I feel honoured to know the kindness and resilience of these wild hearts.
In the hands of a local wildlife carer, this young lady had recovered from her ailment and was due to return to the bush in good health. Though she would not return alone, having caught the eye of a roaming bachelor, who perhaps had been in the very same care as her. He stayed in her company and she followed him into the wild, leaving a rather charming story behind in their memory.
Artworks by Maegan Oberhardt highlight many species of wildlife native to Australia. This piece forms part of a collection of artwork that expands environments, composition, and the use of compatible media within the piece. The primary connection within her art is in the technique. It is man-made fire burning paper (which is a by-product of trees). This comments on the conflict between man and nature. The result of that conflict is that most wild species are directly impacted by man’s carbon footprint.
This series has used soot and Watercolour to achieve the variety of tones present in the finished artwork.
